What is the official check?
England’s Year 4 multiplication tables check assesses recall of tables up to 12. Under the standard format, children try 3 practice questions, then answer 25 timed questions. Each answer has 6 seconds, with a 3-second gap between questions.
Schools administer the official check. This website is independent and uses its own generated practice questions.
What does a score mean?
The official result is a score out of 25, with no expected-standard threshold. Our scores describe only this practice session. We don’t label children as passing or failing, predict their official result, or diagnose learning needs.
Start with understanding.
- Choose one table and leave the timer off.
- Use objects, drawings or repeated groups to explore a fact.
- Try recalling familiar facts without prompts.
- Finish with a few facts the child feels comfortable with.
- Use a timed practice check occasionally to become familiar with its pace.
Allow for different needs.
Custom practice offers no timer, or 6, 10 or 20 seconds per question, with a manual next step. These are practice settings. Discuss any official access arrangements with the child’s teacher; our settings do not reproduce or determine eligibility for them.
